Monika Schönhoff
University of Münster
Monika Schönhoff studied Physics at U Hannover and received her PhD at U Mainz in 1994 working on ultrathin organic films. As a postdoctoral researcher at U Lund, Sweden, she turned to applying NMR methods to study colloidal systems and thin layers and consecutively started a junior group at the Max-Planck-Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Potsdam. In 2003 she was appointed associate professor at the University of Münster, and became full professor of Polymers and Nanostructures in 2011. Her research is based on NMR transport experiments by multinuclear pulsed field gradient NMR, focusing on battery electrolytes such as ionic liquids, polymer electrolytes and gel electrolytes. In particular, her group has pioneered the application of electrophoretic NMR to concentrated battery electrolytes, where ion mobilities in an electric field serve to elucidate detailed molecular transport processes and ion correlations.
