Anja Böckmann
Université de Lyon
Anja Böckmann holds a degree in chemistry from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany, and a doctorate from the Université Paris XI, France. During her postdoctoral tenure at Columbia University, NY, USA with Ann McDermott, and subsequently as a researcher at the CNRS in Lyon, France, she has published two of the early resonance assignments by solid-state NMR. Subsequently, she has advanced an interdisciplinary and integrated approach that combines novel spectroscopic methods with innovative sample preparation techniques and a perspective on which biological challenges are feasible and worthwhile to address. Her current research is focused on viral proteins and their frequently membrane-bound assemblies. Subsequent to research on a range of hepatic viruses, her work is now focused on proteins that enhance virulence in emerging infectious diseases. This is investigated by her laboratory using a combination of cell-free protein synthesis and proton-detected fast MAS NMR.
