Mei Hong

Mei Hong is the David A. Leighty (1970) Professor of Chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After receiving her Ph.D. at the University of California at Berkeley and conducting postdoctoral research at MIT, she joined the faculty at Iowa State University as an Assistant (1999), Associate (2003) and Full (2005) Professor. She returned to MIT in 2014. Since 2023 she is Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Chemical Society. Mei Hong is known for her creative development and application of advanced solid-state NMR techniques to elucidate the structure and dynamics of biological macromolecules, including virus membrane proteins, amyloid proteins, and plant cell walls. Her awards and honors include the American Chemical Society Pure Chemistry award (2003) and Nakanishi Prize (2021), the Protein Society Irving Sigal Young Investigator award (2012) and Christian Anfinsen award (2023), and member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2024).
