Travel

Oulu is reachable by train, airplane, or combining these with ferry or bus trips. About 95 % of the CO2 emissions of an international conference is due to air travel. To make a difference on the sustainability of the EUROMAR 2025 conference we encourage all the participants to choose sustainable travel options, such as using trains and ferries as much as possible. For example, by taking a train instead of a flight from Helsinki to Oulu, you can reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 99% (198 kg CO2e). From the Sustainability page you can find more information and examples on the CO2 emissions for different options. Regardless of the mode of travel, we suggest to use e.g. Hiilipörssi (carbon markets) to compensate traveling emissions (see the Sustainability page).
